Jim Aivalis - Chief Executive Officer/President

Mr. Aivalis joined Prometheus Energy in January 2013 as CEO, bringing over 30 years of domestic and international energy industry experience with a focus on the upstream market. Prior to joining Prometheus Energy, Mr. Aivalis was the CEO and President of ThruBit, LLC, now a Schlumberger company providing new drilling and data acquisition technologies to oil and gas operations. Mr. Aivalis’ previous roles include Non-Executive Director of XACT Downhole Telemetry in Calgary, Canada, specializing in acoustic measurement-while-drilling telemetry systems, and Managing Director for one of the energy industry’s leading global pipe and premium connection manufacturers TenarisConnections B.V. Prior to Tenaris, Mr. Aivalis served over 20 years with Schlumberger in a variety of senior management roles including: Sales and Marketing, Operations, and Oil and Gas Project Management. Mr. Aivalis started his career in the field, followed by positions in engineering, training, and global technical management. Mr. Aivalis’ intellectual blend of holding five patents, authoring numerous articles, and bringing multiple nascent technologies to the energy markets are unique in the step change of maximizing well construction performance and hydrocarbon production. Mr. Aivalis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology and has attended a number of executive programs from Stanford, University of Chicago and JMW Consultants. He is a longstanding member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and IADC.

 

 


Board of Directors

Michiel Boersma - Chairman

Michiel Boersma was appointed Chairman of the Board of Prometheus Energy in December 2009. Prior to that, he was Chairman of the Management Board of the largest Dutch utility, Essent, from 2003 to 2009. Prior to joining Essent, Mr. Boersma worked for more than 30 years with Royal Dutch Shell in The Netherlands, France, Turkey and the UK. Senior Executive positions with Shell included President of Shell Coal International (London, 1993-1995), Chief Executive and General Manager of the Shell Companies in Turkey (Istanbul, 1995-1997), Head of Strategic Planning Oil Products (London, 1997-1998), CEO of Shell?s Global LPG Business (London, 1998-2000) and President Shell Global Solutions and Executive Vice President Oil Products Executive Committee (The Hague, 2000-2003). Currently he is a professional board member with (Supervisory) Board memberships of Neste Oil, Finland; ProRail, the Dutch Rail Infrastructure; KEMA, an International Consultancy business in the area of Energy as well as a number of Institutions (a.o. in the areas of Health and Culture). Mr. Boersma holds an M.Sc. in physical organic chemistry and a Ph.D. in chemical technology, both from Eindhoven University, The Netherlands.

Brett Daniel

Brett Daniel is a Managing Director at Black River Asset Management, a global asset management company that is an independently managed subsidiary of Cargill.  At Black River, Mr. Daniel oversees the firm's Alternative Energy and LNG private equity activities.  He is an accomplished investment professional with over twenty years of public and private company experience in the United States, Europe and the Far East. Mr. Daniel is currently a board member of Prometheus Energy, GFS Corporation, LNG Silesia, Plasco Energy Group, and Sopogy, and is a board observer for Sindicatum Sustainable Resources and Metallkraft. Mr. Daniel graduated Magna Cum Laude in Finance from the University of San Diego and holds a MBA from the University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business.

Arpesh Mehta

Arpesh Mehta is a Director at Black River Asset Management. In 2005, he joined Cargill Ventures, a diversified venture capital fund owned by Cargill Inc. In 2007, the management of the fund was transferred to Black River, where Mr. Mehta continued to work on the Ventures fund in addition to Black River’s Clean Energy Investment fund. Mr. Mehta has worked on numerous investments in the clean technology and biotechnology sectors, being involved with all stages of the investment process from evaluating investment prospects to board governance. Mr. Mehta’s cleantech investment involvement includes Virent, EcoSynthetix (TSX:ECO), Aspectrics (acq. by Guided Wave), BrightSource Energy, and Sindicatum Renewable Resources. Prior to Black River, Mr. Mehta held various R&D and marketing positions in the biotech industry, and is the author of ten research publications. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from UCLA, and a MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.

Luis Mesa

Luis Mesa is a Senior Business Advisor of Kenda Capital. He joined Shell Technology Ventures in 2005 and moved to Kenda Capital in 2007. While at STV and Kenda, Mr. Mesa served as Chairman and Director of Thrubit LLC and At Balance Americas; he was associated with these two companies from their inception to successful exits. In addition, Mr. Mesa served as Director of Zeitecs and Enventure.  Mr. Mesa is currently a Member of the Board of Zahroof Valves, Inc, Member of the Advisory Board of Zink Air, and Senior Advisor for Coil Tubing Solutions LLC, and as Director of The Houston Center for Photography. Mr. Mesa has over 30 years experience in international finance and management, 25 of them with Schlumberger in their different product lines (Dowell, Wireline, Sedco-Forex, Anadrill, WesternGeco, Oil Field Services, and Schlumberger Limited). He worked in a variety of global and regional assignments in Europe, Middle East, Far East, and North and South America, in roles such as Area CFO, Treasurer, and Chief of Internal Audit. Mr. Mesa also worked with Shell and Mobil in their downstream business prior to joining Schlumberger. While at Schlumberger, Mr. Mesa worked in several acquisitions and divestments, and was a key player in the teams that turned Anadrill and Geco into profitable product lines. He also served as CFO of Oilfield Services, North and South America. Mr. Mesa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University, and a MBA from ICMS. He has also attended The Advance Business Management School at Stanford, and participated in several courses in International Taxation and Treasury.

Erik Vollebregt

Erik Vollebregt is the Managing Director at Kenda Capital, leading a team overseeing the investments of the Shell Technology Ventures Fund 1 B.V. in various energy technology companies. Prior to Kenda Capital, Mr. Vollebregt worked for Royal Dutch Shell for 27 years in various staff, line and senior management positions in Shell's upstream and downstream businesses. In the late nineties, Mr. Vollebregt served as Commercial & Finance Director of Shell Companies in Nigeria, managing Shell Nigeria's business development and growth agenda. His three decades of extensive management experience includes leadership positions at Shell serving as Chief Internal Auditor, Manager/Negotiator of the disposal of Shell’s global Billiton metals business, and IPO of the Australian gold assets. Mr. Vollebregt took the lead of Shell Technology Ventures in 2001, the Royal Dutch Shell owned predecessor to Shell Technology Ventures Fund 1 B.V. He holds a Masters degree in Economics from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and a Masters degree in Law from the VU University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
